OUr Direction

We present an annual event celebrating global island stories and island personalities on Langeland, Denmark.
  • Our film event, to be held every May, will be supported by a year round education series for the next generation of Global Island Filmmakers. For our May 2026 lead off film event we will present 3 “Film Days” Friday May 22nd, Saturday May 23rd & Sunday May 24th with feature films, short films in both narrative and documentary formats.

Our annual film event is planned to include a growing year round education component.
  • Our annual event of “Film Days” moving eventually to a four to six day “Film Festival” will be supported by a year round education program in partnership with Langeland Efterskole and Humble Music Efterskole, shared digitally across Denmark / Nordic region availability and bring the leading partnership voices globally in tech, media, AI and Film education and training for a fresh perspective. Our commitment to Nordic Island films includes a strong commitment to equity of gender offerings, and support for the growing voices of indigenous filmmakers and stories.

Our Festival Strength will be film, media, educators and student leaders globally coming together to celebrate the compelling islander spirit.
  • The Langeland International Island Film Festival & Annual Education Programme will rise annually to celebrate island stories and island personalities. Langeland International Island Film Festival will draw together Danish, Nordic and International islanders and a positive group of supporting audiences. Our event is set to commence in 2026 as an annual festival slated for May at venues across the island of Langeland, Denmark and year round student education program, commencing October 2026.

The festival will showcase the best of Island film, art and culture from around the world.
  • We will welcome filmmakers and artists who have found their inspiration via their own experiences of island life wherever that may be. This will hold true for our student film and media tech series in partnership with Langeland Efterskole, Humble Music Efterskole and across Denmark schools.
Our statement of Indigenous Filmmaker support

"As you consider digging deeper, joining us on Langeland and watching a film with us please consider that the films and media we share and support often are created, produced or shaped by the peoples, lands and waters of many indigenous communities worldwide, or come from lands or traditional territories of indigenous communities or first nations peoples.

The Langeland International Film Festival respectfully acknowledges we may meet or view programmes from these traditional lands of many indigenous communities, and we thank these nations for the care and stewardship over these shared lands.  We honour the lands of indigenous communities who have lived, travelled and gathered for thousands of years before us. It is their footsteps that have marked the land before us. In the work we do today, in the films we screen and celebrate, we will all do our best to act in the spirit of reconciliation and learning to work together to provide better care for these communities."
